Cross-Country Holidays in Austria
Enjoy magical winter landscapes
While others are spending the day out on the pistes, you can enjoy glorious, peaceful hours of cross-country skiing as you explore the extensive trail network in the Schladming-Dachstein Region. These beautifully maintained trails (for classic and "skating" technique) lead through beautiful winter countryside and past traditional huts. Extraordinary trail networks, a training center for many national XC teams, the Dachstein - an Eldorado for ski tourers, idyllic valleys, rustic huts and so much more.
Ramsau am Dachstein cross-country paradise, which hosted the Nordic Ski World Championships in 1999, is barely a 15-minute drive from the Bärenwirt!
PS: Depending on snow conditions, most of the trails are generally open from December to April.
- Cross-country ski equipment available to borrow for free at Hotel Bärenwirt (skis, boots & poles)
Cross-Country Ski Trails
Our XC trails lead across glistening fields and meadows, occasionally through forests blanketed in snow, out along the valley bottom. Leaving you with lasting impressions are sparkling ice formations in the stream bed of the Donnersbach, vying with the sunlight for your attention. Both trails are double tracked and intended for "classic" cross-country technique. If the terrain allows, there is also a separate track for "skating" technique, an ideal way for you to work on your skiing skills as well as your physical condition.

Kufsteinloipe in Weissenbach
From the Bierstub'n, a relaxing, slightly uphill trail leads you past the small village of Weissenbach in the direction of Rössing (Ramsau). After reaching the turn-around point, you can make your way back to Weissenbach or to your original starting point at the Bierstub'n. Access point: Bierstub'n in Weissenbach (3km from the Bärenwirt via a cross-country trail).

Village XC Trail: Haus-Aich-Pruggern
Discover a section of beautiful Ennstal Valley along the “Dörferlanglaufloipe” from Haus to Pruggern. Hear the soothing babble of the nearby River Enns and experience a very special winter feeling, while at the same time cutting your tracks through the crisp, crunchy snow beneath your skis. Stop off in one of the quaint villages along the way, and get to know our rural traditions even better. (between the trails in Haus, Aich and Weissenbach, you will have to make your way briefly on foot through the “Lärchschachen”.) Setting out from Aich, the Village Trail takes you alongside the Enns as far as Au. After crossing the bridge (next to the treatment plant), continue to Pruggern (ca. 2.5 km) and Moosheim, eventually returning via the same route to Aich.
Access point in Aich: Sport- & Family Hotel Bärenwirt
